Karate kids kick zombie ass!

I want to ask William's karate instructors if they want to choreograph the zombie fight scene. We can also ask for volunteer actors from the karate classes, to play both zombies & golfers. Karate & golf clubs. Can't pay the dojo, but we can let them have a copy of the film to use in commercials.

Possibly, exterior shot of dojo, kids in gis exiting, they say, "let's cut through the golf course," they see the fight in progress & join in. Woo Hoo! big fun!

Also, Hank brought up that 2 doors down, our neighbor, DJ is professor in theatre dept, directing little shop of horrors this year. director! costumes! and he's good at choreographing fight scenes.

Did I tell you Jessica know metal band in town? Mowhawks and attitude!

OMG! Zombie short film festival call for entries!

Zombie short film festival call for entries

Robbo sez, "Talented Toronto writers & filmmakers, Jim Taylor & Cory Laffin, have announced the first Zombie Short Film Festival and are calling for submissions. The festival will be held in Toronto, at the glorious Revue Cinema (in my friendly neighbourhood Parkdale) on October 30th. The criteria for submissions is pretty straight forward: 1) It must be a short film with a maximum running time of 20 minutes; and 2) It must involve zombies. Further details can be found on their web site."

Zombie Short Film Festival: Call For Submissions (Thanks, Robbo!)

Stream of I can't spell consciounsciousness.

A study in Metal subculture needs to be conducted, especially in which type of Metal is going to be chosen. (Death Metal!)

Snooty golfer doesn't reappear anywhere. Character consistency needs to happen, maybe some character development?

Love and Metal don't go well together. Possible conflict, romantic plot?

Accidents happen. I think it would be scarey and psychological if one of the characters ended up killing a live person, maybe important.

Should this be a Comedy Horror? Break 4th wall perhaps? Zombie Billy Mays? (For the record, I thought of this before he died.)

Recurring theme: "He makes a great flaming zombie."

Important thing to think about: We know everything that will happen to the characters over the course of the story. The hard part is presenting the story in a way that's appealing, presenting the facts so that it's exciting at the end and the audience keeps guessing.

I'd like to have Wolfram|Alpha (or Foxsheep|Beta, if they don't allow it) do a search on "Ancient Indian Herb + Experimental Chemical Fertilizer" and output "ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!" in big letters, followed by "easily neutralized with perfume or a brain-disabling attack. Brain disabling attacks do not work on headless zombies, but you knew that."

Anything racial, or is the cast going to be wonderbread? Race, sexuality, religion, political persuasion: all very controversial topics. Lets write em in!

Caren needs an agent, an entourage. Wait, that's great! Caren and her entourage could hook up with the metal band. Wow.... that's so cool! So much plot, script, character development, controversy can be made doing this.

Comment on what you think of these ideas. Feel free to make your own posts. Really.

Possible scene organization

Opening scene with commercial shoot.

Title sequence after zombie hand.

Snooty golfer flirting scene.

Checking into room. Can be used to introduce in-lodge character, underground metal concert, metal band members.

Bar scene.

Metal concert.

Zombies rising, forewarning.

Explanation of zombie uprising, water bottle crisis?

Equipping at mall; perfume.

Go back to lodge, kick some zombie ass.

Fail. Ending credits, w/ Thriller and Zombie Michael Jackson. (please?)

This is just preliminary. I think some transitions are a bit bumpy, as the explanation and the crisis with the water are difficult to explain.

At the Bar

INT. Lodge bar.

Many Indian stereotypes. Beer on the tap. Very dirty glasses.

BARTENDER is super sleazy. His customers are a mixture of about 1/5 golfers and 4/5 metal heads. DIRECTOR is at the bar, sticks out like a sore thumb.

BARTENDER: "What's it gonna be then, eh?"

DIRECTOR: "What do you suggest?"

BARTENDER: "I make a great flaming zombie."

DIRECTOR looks at the cups, eyes their dirtiness with disgust: "I'll just have a Coke. In a bottle."

METALHEAD: "Hey, I'll have that flaming zombie thing."

BARTENDER makes flaming zombie. He pours the rums, flipping the bottles in a coordinated, amazing style of bartender juggling. He finishes it off with an "Everclear Flame" breath.

BARTENDER is about to hand off his creation when he spots CAREN. He spills the drink on the METALHEAD's crotch, engulfing it in flame.

BARTENDER: "Well, hello." Slicks back eyebrows, receding hairline. "You're just about the sexiest thing I've ever seen around this joint."

Opening Scene

EXT. GOLF COURSE

Commercial for DENTECARE DENTAL FLOSS being recorded. CAREN MAY (CM) is in full golf garb, holding a driver (1 wood golf club). Golf ball positioned on a tee.

CU CMs mouth. A nervous, toothy smile. Perfect teeth. Slowly zooms out over the period of the comercial.

DIRECTOR, off-screen: "Whenever you're ready."

CM, formal, stiff: "Hey, y'all! It's me, 4-time LPGA winner Caren May. With all the time I spend golfing, I have little time to worry about different holes. That's right ladies, cavities. Thankfully, Dentecare's for-for....form....'for-MUH-lah-TEHD' this new dental floss. It 'putts-out' cavities."-by this time, CM is talking very casually- "It's got, like, something in here from Indians or something, and, uh, it came from around this here Algonquin [mispronounced] Golf Lodge. It's like a plant or something. I dunno. Anyways, I just use it at night like so."

CM demonstrates proper dental floss usage. Makes a face.

CM: "It tastes just like....ASS!!"

DIRECTOR: "The hell?!"

CM: "It's like pulling a stringy, minty ass through my teeth!"

DIRECTOR: "We're using some new Indian plant, comes from around here. Actually, you're standing on it; real good golf grass, they say. Look, just keep going with the script, we can edit it."

CM: "...and my teeth are sparkly clean! Oh, and it's de-"-throws up a little in the mouth-"delicious too! [stiff]It's like dessert on a string!(TM)"-CM swings the driver at a glof ball, pauses-"[stiff]A hole in one! So try Dentecare Dental floss! And remember, you can't spell 'care' double-you-slash-oh 'Caren.'"

"CUT!"

DIRECTOR facepalms.

CM: "Well, did I do good this time?"

DIRECTOR: "....Good enough. We'll get it in editing. The light's no good, so let's just call it a day, bring it back tomorrow."

CM: "I still don't get it, why'm I s'posed to say 'a hole in one'? I think the ball went into the water hazard."

DIRECTOR: "We'll edit it. It's gonna look great. You'll look great. You'll look as good as your contract. It better look that good. Anyways, you got this nice, long grassy thing over there, so you just hit some balls and have fun, 'kay? Oh, Mark, tell the groundkeeps they can start spraying that stuff now."

Groundskeeps start spraying pesticide from white bottles labeled "EXPERIMENTAL."

DIRECTOR, ranting in background: "HEY JIMMY! GET OVER HERE! I got a real eating out from the groundskeeper yesterday, says someone keeps leaving donut boxes around the lawn. Hey, I don't see no other fatass eatin' donuts around here. You callin' me a fatass?!"... goes on like that.

CM: "Wow, TV people sure are smart."

Tees up a golf ball. Drives it to the hole. Stops just a few inches from the hole.

DIRECTOR: "Whaddaya mean we don't have coverage? A dead zone? How the hell am I supposed call the agents? Shit, lousy phone company"...keeps ranting in the background

A ZOMBIE HAND comes from the hole, grabs the ball, pulls it down into the hole.

CM: "THANKS!"

ZOMBIE HAND gives thumbs up, then descends.

TITLE: ZOMBIE GOLF LODGE.

Treatment

Former Olympic golfer and dental floss spokesmodel, Caren May, battles host of zombies awaken by the combination of the herb in the dental floss, experimental insectacides, and the loathsome tunes of metal band "Wake the Dead," at the Algonquin Golf Lodge, built on an ancient Indian burial ground.
